I think Chiarelli should absolutely look to move Smith, and he should package him for a better return. Maybe send him packing with Soderberg in some sort of deal, but from what I'm reading and hearing, he's not looking at any earth-shattering deals. Kassian, Stewart, Santorelli... I mean are those guys you want to burn Smith for?
I liked the Kassian-for-Bartkowski rumor, but it seems like nothing is happening on that front. Could he be a piece added to the rumored Eberle deal that had Krug, a prospect, and a pick heading the other way to add Petry to the deal? Who knows if that was even true to begin with?
I honestly don't see them doing anything of impact, and I think it will hurt in the long run. Lucic should've been shipped out for Oshie while the iron was hot, much like if anyone was actually interested in Bartkowski or Eriksson, but Chia Pete seems to like sitting on his assets just to the point where they're either no longer desirable or the player he wants gets hot and takes himself off the trade market. Chris Stewart isn't any kind of answer.

Hmmm. Let's expand that.

Kassian and 7th for Kelly and Hamilton? What do you think. Does this make as much sense as your proposal?

I'm on board with trading Smith. Kids got skills but I think playing on a line with the twins masked a lot of deficiencies that are finally showing through. He's gotta learn how to produce without being spoon fed.

Just wingin it...

Haha, I was just messin with you cus I have 0 interest in Higgins. For reals though, maybe a Smith for Kassian deal helps both teams?

Smith hasn't been very good this year, but I don't think we need to burn him at the stake. It seems tradition in the Bruins market that we burn our players at the stake and in the media, the minute they have an off year. History confirms it Thornton, Seguin, etc...

At the start of the year it was Rask, Chara is complete garbage said by many. Lucic should be sent out for pucks and water bottles. cmon people let's not jump the gun.

I agree this team is a mess and PC has some bad contracts on the books and it is all on him. My one question is why has Kelly never been moved? I figured they should have dealt him over Boychuck to start the year. Does Kelly have a no trade clause? If he does that is just gross. We need a top 4 defenceman now and we had a good one in Boychuck.

It started with giving Iginla a bonus laden contract that rolled into this season. I'm not saying Benning leaving doesn't hurt, but having the extra cap space without Iginla's bonus would have allowed them to keep Boychuk and sign a decent RW.

Edit: BTW Canucks looked damn sharp last night, that game was a passing clinic.

Keep Smith, let Soderberg go for the highest bidder. They don't have the talent this year, I'd rather them sell the UFA's than bring in a sub par rental or give up younger players like Smith/Spooner/Subban/Koko......it just isn't worth it.

Its a fine line for sure. They were beating some good teams in Jan. NYI, TB, Pitts, LA, etc. Now they have slipped again. On one hand they should moderately rebuild for next year and sell. On the other hand maybe they are a couple pieces from making a deep run this year.

Maybe by adding a Stewart, Franson, and Winnik they would be back on top again? I don't think that trio would mortgage the future.

I thought they should have traded most of their UFAs over the summer. They really should have traded McQuaid and Bartkowski instead of Boychuk. They have a few D in the minors that can play those bottom pair minutes.

I'm in favor of selling and acquiring younger players as well. I agree with someone on here who thinks we are only one or two pieces away from a potential run. I can totally see them grabbing Stewart as long as Buffalo retains salary. Not sure what else they need. Another 4th line RW. I'd love to see Eberle but that won't happen. Next year will be rough. What will the Cap increase to?

Boston is going to be a buyer. Jacobs isn't ready to give up. His comments a few weeks ago prove this.

Canucks need speed and scoring like nobody's business.

Still can't believe Boston didn't try to move loui or Kelly rather then John boy

Agree with you.

But.......Clod loves Kelly and he is a BIG TIME leader in the locker room.
"Behind the B" really shows his perceived leadership role with the team.

Kinda think having Johnny (a top pairing D man) over Kelly ( a third line winger) would be the smarter move.

After watching those last 2 games I see no point in being buyers. Yes they'll make the playoffs and that will make it tough to sit back but There's no way they go deep this year I've done a 360 with players on this Team trade anyone on the roster except Bergy & Dougie
That's It. Everyone else is on the table

I'm hoping we hold all of firsts and seconds.....so no.

Maybe this draft is soooo deep that Chia pet accidentally drafts a stud or two....
